I painted in the Paint San Clemente 8th annual Plein Air Event last weekend.

I am an unabashed studio painter who paints primarily from photos. So , that being said, I was very surprised when I won an award at this event. I participated in the Quickdraw portion of this event. The painter has 3 hours to complete their painting.

I had alot of fun and enjoyed the opportunity to paint a model outdoors.

I must say, painting from a photograph or from life, indoors or outdoors,is always a challenge. No matter which way you prefer to paint, they all bring to the table, their own difficulties and enjoyments.

Either way (plein air or studio) art begins within the artist, no matter what the reference is.
